What is the Chrism Mass?

The abbreviated version (as provided by Wikipedia-ChrismMass) is  that the Chrism Mass is a religious service held in Roman Catholicism, Lutheranism, and Anglicanism. Maundy Thursday is notable for being the day on which the Chrism Mass is celebrated in each diocese. The Chrism Mass is one of the most solemn and important liturgies of the liturgical year.

In the Diocese of Savannah, we will celebrate this most solemn time on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.  Jesus, the Anointed One, anticipates the continual outpouring of God’s mercy through the sacramental anointing with oil in the liturgies of the church. Every year, in Catholic diocese around the world, these sacred oils are newly prepared, blessed by the bishop, and distributed to the churches during Holy Week. This takes place at the Chrism Mass.
