Consecration of the Chrism

Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer invites all to participate in the Mass of the Blessing of the Oils and the Consecration of the Chrism at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah.

The bishop celebrates the Chrism Mass annually to provide the holy oils for the celebration of the sacraments—the oil of the sick, the oil of catechumens and the sacred Chrism that will be used in the Sacrament of Confirmation as well as in the Baptism of children and the ordination of bishops and priests.

About 80 priests are expected to concelebrate and renew their commitments to priestly service during this Mass, which is one of the most solemn and significant liturgies of the church year.

A dinner for parishioners and guests from outside the Savannah Deanery will held at the Cathedral Parish Hall beginning at 5:15 pm. Please RSVP for the dinners to Maggie Blanc by April 3 at mmblanc@diosav.org or 912-201-4126.
